Pre-requisite Coursework in Communication Sciences and Disorders*

Individuals who do not hold a bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders will be required to complete pre-requisites prior to consideration for the DLVE-SLP Masters degree program. DLVE-SLP requires the core CSD pre-requisite courses to be completed with a grade of B- or better. Due to variations in university requirements, the pre-requisites may include:

  1. Normal Language Development
  2. Anatomy & Physiology of Speech & Hearing Mechanism
  3. Phonetics
  4. Phonology/Articulation & Language Disorders
  5. Introduction to Audiology
  6. Speech and/or Hearing Science
  7. Neurology in Communication

Students are also required to complete a course in Mathematics, Physical Science, Biological Science, and Behavioral/Social Science prior to completion of the Masters degree for consideration of certification in speech-language pathology. Students are advised to review transcript records to ensure that these requirements are met with courses completed with a grade of C or better. Additionally, some programs prefer to have a statistics course completed.
