Program of Study

The DLVE-SLP project is a cohort model, meaning that you are expected to take the scheduled coursework when it is offered. There is no guarantee that courses will be made available outside of the posted schedule.

The program of study includes courses covering a variety of disorders across the lifespan. Students should expect to complete 2 three credit courses per semester. In addition, students will be expected to complete a minimum of 400 clinical hours under the supervision of a certified speech language pathologist.

Admitted students will complete a program of study equivalent to that of their admitting university. The project is designed so that a majority of your coursework will occur online. A university may have additional requirements for face to face meetings and/or clinical experiences occurring on campus. For example, some university programs will require students to complete the initial practicum on campus during summer 2008.

All students are required to attend a yearly orientation.

Financial Assistance

Students are responsible for tuition and fees associated with the university in which they were admitted. Additional expenses include books, and travel to required university events (including orientation). Tuition assistance is available through the Virginia Department of Education. Amount available will be subject to availability of funding to the DLVE-SLP project.

Students accepting funding will be required to complete an Agreement of Obligation acknowledging their commitment to employment in the Virginia public schools.
